🚀 New features
👉 Service fee for deposits in the cart
You can now charge a fixed service fee when customers choose to pay a deposit in the cart.
Go to Partial payments → Cart page → Offer and set Type to Deposit. Each offer now has a Service fee for partial payment setting.
What to know:
Set the Fee amount, the Line item name and the Widget text. Use {{service.fee}} to show the fee in titles, descriptions and widget text.
The fee is charged once per cart, in full at checkout. It's never part of the remaining balance.
The fee is a hidden product in your Shopify admin. You can rename it in Advanced settings → Service fee product. If the product is edited, archived or deleted in Shopify, the app restores it.
Tax on the fee follows the Charge tax setting of the fee product. Fees aren't refunded automatically, so make sure they comply with local laws.
Checkout is blocked if the fee doesn't match the customer's payment choice. You can edit that message in Customization → Text labels → Service fee error.
The fee doesn't count toward the minimum cart amount, and it's left out of deposit order amounts and revenue.
Note: the service fee needs two new app permissions. Shopify asks you to approve them once, the next time you open the app.
👉 Block new split payments until unpaid ones are paid
New setting in Split payments → Settings: Block new split payments until the customer pays off their unpaid ones.
What to know:
Choose Block any new split payment, or Block new split payments if they contain products from unpaid ones.
When a customer is blocked, the Split button opens a screen with links to their unpaid payments instead of the split form.
Edit the message in Design → Pop-up → Content → Warning text. It can be translated like any other text.
Unpaid payments are remembered in the customer's browser, so customers on another device or in a private window aren't blocked.
The setting is off by default.
Note: the "products from unpaid ones" mode only recognizes split payments created after this release.
👉 New Shopify Flow triggers and templates
Three new triggers:
Payment overdue: fires once a day for each unpaid payment, from 1 to 30 days past due.
Order created with partial payment: fires once for each deposit or installment order placed at checkout. Orders you create in the admin don't fire it.
Payment invoice sent: fires every time an installment invoice email goes out, whether it comes from the schedule, a Flow action, a manual send, a combined invoice or a replaced invoice.
Two new templates:
Collect payment after order fulfillment: collects the remaining deposit balance when you mark the order as fulfilled.
Notify internal team when all payments are completed: emails your team once a customer has paid everything.
Also:
The Update the order due date action now works for deposit orders too.
We refreshed the template library. Workflows you already created from a template keep working.
The Shopify Flow card on the Integrations page now has a Learn more link.
Note: new templates appear in the Flow library once Shopify approves them.
👉 A new Home page
Stores that haven't set up a payment option yet see Welcome to SPD Split Payment, with the setup guide and help cards.
Once you set up a feature, Home becomes your Dashboard, with your stats and a Get more from us card for chat, help and feature requests.
The Split card no longer has an on/off switch. Turn Split payments on or off on the Split payments page.
