New features

πŸ‘‰ Apply deposit rules using product tags

You can now target deposit and installment rules using Shopify product tags. Any product tagged with a matching tag will automatically follow your deposit or installment settings β€” no need to configure each product individually.

This is especially useful when your catalog grows or changes. As long as a product carries the right tag, it stays in sync with your payment rules automatically.

How it works:

  • Assign a tag to products in Shopify admin β€” for example, deposit-required or installment-class

  • In Split Payments, create or edit a rule and select Specific product tags as the target

  • Enter the tag name β€” the rule will apply to all matching products instantly

  • Adding or removing the tag in Shopify will automatically include or exclude that product from the rule

You can use it for:

  • Grouping products that always require a deposit at checkout

  • Keeping large catalogs in sync without manual updates

  • Applying the same rule across multiple product types at once

πŸ‘‰ Offer deposits and installments on out-of-stock products

You now have more control over when the deposit or installment widget appears for your customers. Instead of always showing or hiding the option, you can tie its visibility to the product's current stock status.

The new display options are:

  • Alwaysβ€” show the deposit option regardless of stock level

  • Only when out of stockβ€” show the deposit option as an alternative when a variant is unavailable

  • Only when in stockβ€” show the deposit option only when the variant is available to purchase

Using the "out of stock" option? Make sure to enable Continue selling when out of stock for the relevant products in your Shopify admin. Without this setting, Shopify will block checkout for out-of-stock variants even if the deposit widget is shown.

This gives you flexibility to keep selling and collecting payments even when inventory runs low.

πŸ‘‰ Fixed amount deposits and installments (not just %)

Until now, deposits and installments were configured as a percentage of the product price. You can now set a fixed dollar amount β€” perfect for use cases like sign-up fees, class registration deposits, or flat installment payments.

How fixed amounts work:

Scenario

What happens

Fixed amount < product price

Deposit or installment applies normally at cart and checkout

Fixed amount β‰₯ product price

Widget is hidden β€” full price is shown at cart and checkout without any split applied

This is especially useful when:

  • You charge a standard sign-up or booking fee across multiple products

  • Your initial payment should stay the same regardless of order value

  • You want to apply a consistent upfront amount to a whole category (like classes or events) without setting up plans one by one

Note: Fixed amounts are calculated per product, not per cart. For example, a $100 deposit on a product means a customer buying 2 of that product will pay a $200 deposit at checkout.
